<image:title>Fees - Why The Cost?</image:title>
<image:caption>Inspired by Melissa Lopez from Counseling for All Seasons, we endeavor to practice transparency regarding our fees. Many people may wonder about why the cost of therapy is set at $150-$250 per session in Southern California. Many people may have hesitated in taking the first step to initiate therapy because of the price. There will of course be therapists out there who are charging an exorbitant amount to make a lot of money. There is, however, a rhyme and reason to the fees for most therapists. So what is the logic behind setting this fee?</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e4cf068310ecb0e367015f0/1646276345107-TWE3N0GTWWUJHA86C71Y/cactus.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Fees - Becoming a Therapist Costs Money</image:title>
<image:caption>Many therapists go through several years of schooling to be able to do this work, and most have amassed a significant amount of student debt to do so. In addition, therapists must pay a lot of money for prerequisite courses, study materials, and exams to eventually become a licensed professional. Some also have to pay for a supervisor to be able to accumulate the hours to become licensed. Therapists must also pay to take a certain number of classes every few years, which also cost money. If you think about the amount people pay CPAs, paralegals, lawyers, and medical doctors for their time, the fee for a therapist may not come as much of a surprise. Therapy, however, is a feminized form of labor because it is associated with “talking about feelings”, which may cause us as a society to view it as a less valuable service. Of course in an ideal world, ALL of these services would be much more affordable and every person would have a right to these services regardless of their income. In the meantime, we resort to creative solutions to balance worker sustainability and consumer access.</image:caption>

<image:caption>FOUNDER + YOUTH, ADULT & COUPLES/POLYCULE THERAPIST You deserve to have a therapist who is able to hold you in all of your nuanced complexities. As a queer, neurodivergent, Corean child of immigrants, I hope to provide a relevant healing space for children, teens, QTIBIPOC, neurodivergent and nonmonogamous folks to feel seen and heard. I am passionate about decolonizing healing practices, and believe that there must be individual (psychotherapy), community (interdependent care systems), and systemic (community organizing & advocacy) change in order to set up the conditions for our communities to thrive. I am certified in Cognitive-behavioral Therapy, and am extensively trained in high-fidelity Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Brainspotting for children, teens, and adults. I believe in holistic healing practices, and incorporate the aforementioned methods of talk therapy, somatic work, and various creative outlets to support you in your wellness journey. I love being a therapist because it feels meaningful to partner with people to tap into their inner super powers, and nurture a sense of joy, respite, and connection even while living under multiple systems of oppression. I feel like I get to have the privilege to witness firsthand how our communities will not be denied our dignity and our right to thrive. As a therapist, my style isn’t passive. First and foremost, I prioritize building the relationship because it’s important for there to be genuine care and trust between us. Second, I want to make sure you feel like you’re actively getting something out of therapy over time, whether it’s through learning emotion regulation exercises, workshopping hard conversations, doing somatic work to heal the nervous system, or checking in with your inner child. I hope we can partner up to transform self-defeating narratives that no longer serve a purpose, and support you in healing your nervous system to have more moments of peace. Some things that bring me joy and healing include going to the library and reading books by a BIPOC author, solving Sudoku puzzles, watching korean dramas, and being reminded by my Finch app to check in with my inner child. Food is a central motivator in my life, so I also give pretty awesome restaurant recommendations in LA, especially K-town. I also am a firm believer in the healing power of cute animal videos. If you want a chance to get to know each other better, lets connect over a video call. <image:caption>Therapy for couples, partnerships, and polycules is available for people in: intimate (romantic or platonic), marriage, divorce, separation, and co-parenting relationships. Any relationship can experience challenges when there are transitions like moving, parenthood, career changes, a global pandemic or a mass genocide. The connection can also be impacted when things have stayed the same for too long. You might choose to use therapy to work through these issues as a preventative measure when you are anticipating a significant change, or in response to something that is already causing ruptures in the relationship(s). Or perhaps the relationship feels solid, and you are looking to set a strong foundation for yourselves. Through couples, partnership and polycule therapy, we hope to support everyone in fostering a sense of connection, mutual admiration, trust, and positive communication. We strive to support the relationship unit in identifying a common goal and finding the path to get there by elucidating needs, setting boundaries, & practicing nonviolent communication. We can use the therapy space to foster deeper affection within the relationship(s), build effective communication to move through difficult topics, activate emotion and/or physical intimacy, and to turn toward one another by deepening your trust and positive regard for one another.</image:caption>

<image:title>Life Coaching</image:title>
<image:caption>What is the difference between therapy and coaching? Therapy focuses on mental health and emotional healing that connects the present moment to the past. Life coaching is based on the here and now, with an emphasis on action-based efforts to achieve your tangible goals. What can coaching do for you? Coaching can help you work through self-constraining thoughts and belief systems to increase alignment with your different parts. We can support you in developing concrete steps to obtain your goals, and gaining clarity on what gives you a sense of meaning and purpose. Coaching can help you get unstuck in areas of your life such as work, school, relationships, passion projects, or community organizing. Coaching may be for you if you want to disrupt unhelpful habits in time management, physical wellbeing, work satisfaction, routines, and relationships. In our work together, we will identify your concrete goals with clear session agendas, unveil the barriers that are impeding you from achieving those goals, and provide action items to implement in between sessions. While you have the inherent wisdom to achieve this through your own internal resources, your coach can act as an accountability support to refine your unique journey in getting to a desired destination, finding meaning in the process of getting there, and creating space to cultivate a sense of your highest self.</image:caption>

<image:title>Clinical Supervision - We offer transformative supervision for BIPOC clinicians.</image:title>
<image:caption>Psychotherapy in the US is rooted in white, patriarchal notions that often may feel irrelevant to BIPOC and LGBTQ therapists and the communities we serve. It is crucial that our multiple and complex identities are reflected in our supervisory and mentoring relationships, in the same way that we strive to do the same for our clients. We offer supervision from a transformative and anti-oppression lens. We strive to create a safe (not comfortable) space for clinicians to explore, make mistakes, learn, and to identify how to integrate your authentic self into your therapeutic practice. We acknowledge how supervisor and supervisee identities impact relationship to clients, relationship to one another, and relationship to the mental health field in general. <image:title>CBT for Teens and Adults</image:title>
<image:caption>We have CBT-certified therapists with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, a premiere, national organizational body that oversees training and research for CBT. The fundamental principle underlying CBT is that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with one another to affect our internal experience of the world. We all have a running script in our minds that might go as unnoticed as our heartbeat because it is so integrated into our worldview. Also, because what we have lived is sometimes all that we know, we may not have access to different ways of thinking that can help release us from our internal cages, much like a fish in water that cannot conceive of the existence of air. I hope to help you gain the tools to press the slow motion button on those thoughts, identify the patterns that are contributing to your pain, and restructure the cognitive frameworks and behaviors that are impeding your ability to achieve your goals. Once you identify thinking patterns that are unhelpful to you, you can then learn different ways of coping with them. CBT uses behavioral experiments to change your reactions to events that move you forward out of cycles that only take you further from the life you wish to live. We will work on problem solving strategies to help you increase a sense of empowerment over your life, and to break patterns of avoidance that only cause problems to get bigger. Doing so can help to actually alter the chemicals and neural pathways in your brain to create long-lasting change. CBT has a wealth of research in its effectiveness to work through anxiety, depression, panic, OCD, trauma, relationship conflict, substance abuse, and eating disorders. It also has several adaptations to work through specific issues. Cognitive Processing Therapy is one CBT adaptation for trauma. This intervention allows people to process trauma by identifying Stuck Points and engaging in cognitive strategies to release those Stuck Points. This may or may not include crafting a trauma narrative, dependent on what feels most empowering to you. Transform your story to capture how expansive the realm of possibility can be.</image:caption>

<image:title>DBT for Teens & Adults</image:title>
<image:caption>DBT is an evidence-based treatment originally developed for people with Borderline Personality Disorder, but has also been indicated by research to be effective for depression, suicidality, self harm, anxiety, substance use, anger management, PTSD, and eating disorders. In effect, DBT is useful for anyone who has difficulty regulating your emotions (i.e. feeling emotionally out of balance, emotions feeling like they are out of your control, taking a long period of time to feel better), and has a history of emotional invalidation from others that may have become incorporated as your own internal voice. DBT incorporates skills from CBT along with mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, problem solving, & contingency management. It establishes a delicate balance between identifying areas in your life to change (behaviors, responses, thoughts, emotions), along with aspects to accept and validate. This is all with the purpose of helping you to build a life that you can honor and value.</image:caption>

<image:title>Children & Adolescents</image:title>
<image:caption>Nokdu Therapy is a place where young people and their caregivers can find support to get through difficult situations. Children and teens may respond to mental health distress differently from adults. Depression might look like increased tantrums or irritability, and anxiety might look like more stomach aches or difficulty focusing in school. Some things to look out for might include: Increased interpersonal conflict (with you or with others) Less motivation in school Difficulty sleeping Changed appetite Different sleep patterns Social withdrawal Heightened irritability Increased frustration with self and/or others Tearfulness There’s nothing to lose to see if there is something going on in the young person’s life, and to identify what might be contributing to their distress. We can support you and the young person in navigating issues such as: Anxiety + stress Depression Angry outbursts Tantrums Difficulty in school Selective mutism Trauma Wetting the bed Identity crises Interpersonal conflict Feeling like an outsider or feeling misunderstood Changes in their environment like moving, parental separation, etc Neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism Spectrum) When working with children 5-10 years old, we require a combination of individual sessions with the child, collateral sessions with the caregiver(s), and family sessions with both. Research indicates for this age group that this is the most effective way to support the young child in achieving positive change. For young people 12 years old and up, we collaborate with the young person to determine what is the most appropriate combination of individual, collateral and family sessions. In addition to the evidence-based treatment detailed in on our “Methods” page which you can locate at the top of this page, we also use a combination of relational strategies, creative exploration, play, and environmental approaches to support the young person in obtaining their goals. If you are 12 years old or older and seeking therapy, you may be able to access services without guardian consent depending on your circumstances. <image:title>Trauma/Resilience-Informed</image:title>
<image:caption>There are many ways that we can experience and respond to traumatic experiences. You may have experienced clear events that violated your sense of safety, such as an accident, physical assault, sexual violence, school shooting, or acute medical illness. Or you might have experienced more pervasive or normalized experiences of trauma, such as constant criticisms from a loved one, witnessing intimate partner violence, living in socioeconomic poverty, or being bullied at school for your gender presentation, skin color or body shape. There is no hierarchy to trauma, and your pain is valid. We use a trauma and resilience-informed approach that incorporates how traumatic experiences impact our minds, spirits, as well as our physical bodies. You may find yourself avoiding any reminders of the trauma that are impacting your ability to live your life fully, or feel stuck in endless loops of reliving the traumatic experience. You might be blaming yourself for what has happened to you, or at times feel disconnected from your body. You may feel emotionally numb or your emotional vulnerability may be increasingly high. Your trauma can’t be undone, but it can take up less space in your life. You can reclaim a sense of control over yourself and your environment. We hope to support you in harnessing your own inherent ability to process and integrate your trauma experiences. We address the trauma at all levels, from the body, to the mind, to the spirit. We can support you in developing self-soothing and grounding strategies to de-escalate when you are feeling activated. <image:caption>Therapy is an opportunity to invest in your wellbeing and transformation. It can be a space to explore different perspectives, or it can be a place to identify patterns and break habits. Therapy can be a chance to get unstuck when you feel like you have hit a wall. We can support you in working through issues related to emotional distress, which may manifest in your physical body, your spirit, or your thought patterns. In our work, we adopt a holistic approach that recognizes the context in which you are placed based on your various identities, from race to ability to gender and sexuality. Whether your pain feels overwhelming or has been normalized, this is a chance to start putting your wellness first. We want to work with you in building new skills to endure difficult moments, and identify the places in your life where you can reconnect to a sense of meaning and purpose.</image:caption>

<image:title>Brainspotting - Brainspotting is a power therapy model that targets acute, complex & intergenerational trauma.</image:title>
<image:caption>It supports people in identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological areas where emotional suffering, body pain, trauma, dissociation, addiction, and a variety of distressing qualities may feel stuck. It can be used for a variety of issues, including phobias, infant disrupted attachment, physical pain, and feeling stuck in athletic or artistic performance. Brainspotting honors a person’s autonomy and inherent ability to heal. It is a somatic approach that utilizes eye positions and bilateral sound to access the regions of the brain, and helps release trauma and emotional suffering without having to talk about painful, activating experiences. When we use traditional talk therapy, we are operating from the neo cortex, or the rational part of our brain. Trauma, however, changes neural connections in our reptile and subcortical brain, or the parts of the brain that handles many of our subconscious & unconscious processes like breathing, or our fight, flight, freeze responses. That is why we can logically understand something about a negative experience, but feel or respond in a way that doesn’t always align. Brainspotting uses our field of vision to access the cluster of neurons involved in trauma (aka trauma capsules). We then use focused mindful processing to activate the brain’s own internal healing resources to reprocess and release negative experiences that continue to feel distressing. We literally change the structure of our brain so that we can heal wounds and achieve balance, emotional regulation, and meaning making.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Christina Harrison (they/them; she/hers), LCSW #99941 ADULT & GROUP THERAPIST My primary goal in working in mental health is to put myself out of a job. Given that each of us intrinsically know what we need to heal and grow, my approach to psychotherapy is to couple your expertise of being you—your reality and lived experiences—with my skill set in order to collaboratively work towards achieving your goals. Rather than leading, I walk alongside you in our work together, refining the techniques that you bring with you to therapy, so that you can learn to become your own therapist. As a first-generation, queer, Filipinx-Jamaican American femme who grew up in a military family, I understand the importance of being seen in all of our intersecting identities, and the relief that comes when someone “just gets it”. Through a culturally-affirming and healing-centered stance, I utilize numerous therapeutic modalities to facilitate our relationship. My primary therapeutic approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which centers mindfulness; ACT allows us to foster compassion, bravery, and commitment to self in the service of living a full and enriched life, in spite of discomfort, pain, and challenges that arise whilst trying to live it. I have also been extensively trained and supervised in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Additionally, I am a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) clinical trainer. Most people come to the mental health field to help others heal and get healed themself. In addition to my own therapy, other ways I heal look like: recipe testing baked goods in my kitchen, convincing myself that there’s no such thing as “too many” plants and subsequently becoming overwhelmed when I get home and have to figure out where I can fit *another* plant, curled up on my couch watching anime and conspiracy theory documentaries, trying to figure out which planet conjuncts my eighth house, and (most likely on the ground, hurt laughing) re-learning how to roller-skate, which is much more challenging than I remember it being. Individual Therapy Fee: $200-225 / 50-minute session (sliding scale available) *Seeing clients in California, Texas, and New Jersey Trained in: · Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) · Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) · Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) · Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) · Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) · Internal Family Systems (IFS) Specializations: · Navigating Suicidality, Ideation, and Self-Harm Behaviors from an anti-carceral lens · Depression, Anxiety, Trauma (Acute, Complex, & Intergenerational) · Building and Navigating Relationships · Values Work · LGBTQIA+ Experiences · Multiethnic/Multiracial Identity · Neurodivergent, Gifted, or Twice-Exceptional folx (and the burnout that comes with it) · Toxic Work Environments & Burnout (aka Moral Injury) · First Responders, Healthcare Workers, Tech & Digital Safety Industry Photo Credit: Jabari McDonald</image:caption>

<image:caption>TEEN & ADULT THERAPIST Your healing is a radical and personal act. My approach to therapy is to join your narrative and learn what would make healing and change “worth it for you.” Understanding how significant it is to share the honest entirety of our stories, I hope to take compassionate risks alongside you without the fear of losing ourselves or others. Utilizing philosophies rooted in community-based teachings and dialogues, my mission is to align with your personal beliefs and values as it relates to your healer within. Always revisiting and relearning my own intersecting identities as a first generation, queer Korean, I am committed to not only affirm the identities we use to “check off the boxes,” but the identities that often go unseen and untold. Currently my work is based heavily in community QTBIPOC mental health, and clinically supervising other QTI and BIPOC therapists. Whether it is in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) or experiential techniques utilizing creativity and expression, I am a big champion of each individual’s beautiful complexity and that “change can happen at any pace.” Constantly fighting my own urge to be “productive and purposeful” while simultaneously re learning the words “self-care,” I often find myself singing and playing guitar or deep in ceramics. Music and clay have been such important teachers in my own revisitation of what it means to authentically take care of myself and to hold creation and change as sacred. Ultimately my goal is to immediately establish tangible equity within the therapy session so that we can build trust and accountability around your autonomous self. <image:caption>ADULT THERAPIST I believe in the healing power of connection and community. The decision to engage in mental health services is a radical act of self-care and hope for a better future. When we work towards understanding and healing ourselves, we also lay the foundation for understanding and healing our relationships and communities. As a first generation Mexican-American, bisexual, femme, I draw strength from my intersecting identities and do not subscribe to the idea that therapists should remain a blank slate. While I won’t tell you my life’s story, I do believe that it is important for clients to know who they are working with so that we may build a therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect, trust and accountability. Outside of doing my own therapy, other ways in which I engage in self-care are spending time with loved ones, getting lost in a good book, being silly and laughing until my stomach hurts, attending live shows/concerts, and going on nature walks. My primary goal as a therapist is to meet you where you are and utilize my skill set to collaboratively work towards achieving your goals. Think of me as your emotional and psychological guide helping you discover, map, and interpret your inner landscape to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I have two primary therapeutic approaches. The first is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on using mindfulness to foster self-compassion and self-commitment in the service of living a life in line with your values. The second is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which offers practical strategies to help you restructure unwanted cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy. I have worked extensively with adults from all walks of life in helping them navigate depression, anxiety, grief, psychosis, panic, trauma, bipolar, neurodivergence (ADHD, autism), relationship issues, and life transitions. I see my work in the mental health field as a practice in hope and liberation, and as such am dedicated to working with traditionally underserved communities such as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color), LGBTQIA+ & GNC (gender non-conforming persons), poly/kink persons, disabled persons, monolingual Spanish-speakers, and immigrants. I look forward to helping you embrace and celebrate your authentic self. <image:caption>TEEN, ADULT & RELATIONSHIP THERAPIST Healing and thriving are both hard struggles, but you don’t have to struggle alone. Allow me to walk with you on your path, and I will lend guidance and perspective without ever imposing my will over yours. Let’s work together to find the next steps to whatever you bring, the middle path between the burdens and the joys. As a queer, trans, Taiwanese-American, and neurodivergent identified person, my therapeutic stance combines my professional and personal experiences with what I learn from you so we may tailor the best approach. This can be more somatic-leaning, philosophically-inclined, skills-based, or any combination thereof. And since there is no way around the fact that we live in a society, therapy must also confront our responsibility to ourselves, our community, and the external factors that narrow our choices in the first place. Trained and practiced primarily in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a cousin of CBT, as well as given my identities, I can offer a unique perspective on both the process of therapy and the environmental pressures we face. And finally, when we have come as far as we can together, let us part ways amicably and healthily – I won’t deny that my personal goal in our sessions is to render myself obsolete, to contribute to a world that one day needs no borders, inequity, and even therapists. To those of you who have been neglected by our white-dominated institutions, who have sought help from those that don’t (and maybe cannot ever) “get it”, and who have been told you have or are a problem – let’s talk! <image:title>Internal Family Systems - Internal Family Systems is a therapy model that recognizes the multitudes that we all carry, and supports us in healing our inner child.</image:title>
<image:caption>Internal Family system is based on the premise that we all have different parts of us, some that are supportive, others that carry burdens or wounds. Distress and pain happens when different parts of us come into conflict with one another, or become so extreme that it comes at our expense. For example, I may have a perfectionist part that helps me do really well at work, but it’s coming at the cost of my mental health and relationships. Or I have one part of me that tells me to push through hard times, and judges the other aspect of me that sometimes needs to feel sad and just cry it out. Internal Family Systems supports us in reparenting ourselves and to bring ourselves into balance. IFS is a self-led, somatic approach that supports you in learning how to understand, befriend, and connect with the protective and wounded parts of you that may be hard to accept. By doing so, we are able to identify how all of our patterns were once protective, and to then figure out different ways of being that are intentional, present, aligned with our values, and in integrity with our whole selves. We can still be the people that our younger selves always needed. We will practice showing up for ourselves and being our own greatest ride-or-die.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Leslie Yick (they/them; she/hers), AMFT #147779, APCC #17060 TEEN, ADULT, FAMILY & RELATIONSHIP THERAPIST I see myself as a soul in a human body that engages in the world through a curious experiential mindset and the grace to be authentically imperfect. When I embody being a therapist, I see myself as a healing healer. I always aim to walk beside the people I am working with. I aim for a non-hierarchical relationship and to create a collaborative experience where healing is felt in the relational and interconnected space. I intend to hold a space that is safe and brave, where all emotions and selves are welcome to be expressed and embodied. I emphasize the impact of greater systems and society on mental health and act with the understanding that the mental health industrial complex is inherently colonial and violent. I commit to practicing accountability and repair with humility and an open heart, ready to understand and grow. I come from a multicultural Asian lineage, with roots in Chinese, Vietnamese, and other unknown Asian backgrounds. I am a descendant of migrants, refugees, healers, and harmers. I understand the impact that patriarchal, colonial/imperial, and heteronormative binary forces have on our historical lineages and the genealogical effects they can have on one’s nervous system and body, as well as their continued effects on our lives and relationships in our families and greater communities. Additionally, I am queer, gender non-conforming, and sex, kink, and ethical nonmonogamy-positive. I was raised in a colonial religion, and I understand the tension of being simultaneously held and harmed by spiritual communities. I’ve experienced the dis- and re-connection to ancestral gifts and wisdom, and I continue to work through deconstructing religious conditioning and finding the aspects of spirituality that align with my value system now. If what you read resonates or you want to practice: embodying the feeling of thriving, building skills for stronger and longer-lasting connections, and finding greater clarity for yourself in relation to the world around you, I would be honored to accompany you on this part of your journey. Other beings I embody include: metaphysical spiritualist, philosopher, historian, artist, writer, and activist. <image:caption>Rozheen Barekatein (she/hers), ACSW #123348 ADULT & TEEN THERAPIST Hi, I’m Rozheen Barekatein (she/her). I’m an Iranian-American therapist and daughter of immigrants who understands what it’s like to grow up between many cultures. My lived experiences navigating identity, belonging, sexuality, and culture deeply shape the way I show up as a therapist. I aim to bring warmth, curiosity, and genuine care to the work we do together I specialize in supporting children of immigrants, QTBIPOC, and multicultural folks. Holding multiple cultural expectations can sometimes feel like standing in different worlds at once. My hope is to offer a safe place to explore your identity and honor where you come from while also making space for who you’re becoming. My approach incorporates elements of ACT, CBT, motivational Interviewing, art, mindfulness, and somatic based healing. I use these frameworks flexibly, centering your lived experience and whatever feels most supportive in the moment. Whether we’re exploring family boundaries, identity, values, anxiety, or fear, I’ll meet you where you are with intention and genuine care. I strive to honor cultural identity, maintain political awareness, and actively push back against systemic injustice. I am deeply committed to continuing my own unlearning of the colonial and oppressive systems that have shaped our stories. Outside of therapy, I find grounding in time spent with my community, working on pieces at my pottery studio, belly laughing, basking in the sun, jumping into any body of water, walking aimlessly around grocery stores, and cooking comforting meals that remind me of home. If any of this resonates for you, you can reach out to schedule a free 20-30 minute consultation call to see if we would be a good fit! Feel free to check out my website here!
